The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is a vital government agency responsible for the regulation and safety oversight of civil aviation in the United States. Within the FAA, the Air Traffic Organization (ATO) plays a crucial role managing the nation's air traffic services to ensure safe, secure, and efficient use of the navigable airspace. Job Requirements

  • US citizenship is required
  • Selective service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
  • Must submit an SF50
  • One-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required
  • Interviews conducted in accordance with FAA policy
  • Must meet qualification requirements by closing date of vacancy
  • Position may be subject to background investigation
  • May be required to file financial disclosure statement within 30 days of entry on duty
  • Commitment to improving federal government efficiency and upholding US Constitution
  • Not a bargaining unit position

Job Qualifications

  • Must have held an FAA 2152 FG-14/FV-J or above regional or headquarters position for at least one year
  • Or must have been facility rated or area certified for at least one year at an ATS facility
  • Or must have held a MSS position for at least one year in an ATS facility
  • For MSS-4 positions, must have held MSS-3, MSS-4, or equivalent FAA FG-14/FV-J position for at least one year
  • Demonstrated experience in managing terminal and en route air traffic facilities
  • Proven ability in strategic planning and leadership within air traffic services
  • Experience in labor-management relations and organizational development
  • Strong understanding of financial management and resource allocation
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills

Job Duties

  • Manage and coordinate air traffic operations and support activities within the assigned district
  • Share full managerial responsibility and act as General Manager in their absence
  • Ensure district operational and support plans integrate with ATS operational philosophy
  • Provide input on policies, standards, and procedures for district activities
  • Maintain connectivity with field facility operations and support quick response to emergency situations
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate operational and support activities
  • Collaborate with labor-management, civil rights, legal, and security offices
  • Allocate budget, staff, and resources to meet organizational objectives
  • Review performance evaluations of subordinate managers and employees
  • Continuously review and improve operational performance across the district
